Lowndes, Alan (1921-1978)

Alan Lowndes was born 1921 in Stockport, Cheshire, the fifth child of a Railway clerk. Left school at 14, apprenticed to a decorator. 1939 – 45 Army service in the Middle East, Italy and Austria. After the war studied painting at night school otherwise , self-taught. Worked part time at many jobs, including a period as textile designer. He had one man exhibitions throughout the world in places like, Manchester, London, New York and other prestigious places.
