Born in Newcastle in 1964, visual image has always played an important part in Malcolm’s life. Visits to Leeds City Art Gallery as a child sparked an interest in art but Malcolm became hooked on photography as a teenager and went to art college to study his craft.
Malcolm went on to enjoy a successful career in newspapers, winning the Press Photographer of the Year award in 1997.
A road accident ended Malcolm’s career and the following years were spent raising his children. In 2005 he took up painting and embraced it with a familiar enthusiasm, quickly establishing himself as an artist with a strong voice. Group exhibitions in a number of North West galleries, including Stockport Art Gallery, Wendy J Levy, Troubadour and Mooch Art, were followed by two sell-out solo shows at Collect Art in 2009 and 2010.
Malcolm’s work and his inspirational story have featured in Cheshire Life, Living Edge, Artists and Illustrators magazine, the Manchester Evening News, Rock Radio and several times on BBC television. In 2010 his painting ‘Still life with soup can’ was short listed for the John Moores painting prize, Britain’s top painting competition.
