John Bowes was one of the Midday artists, as well as serving on the Academy's spring exhibition hanging committee along with Margaret Pilkington and Percy Lancaster. As stated in the book"A Northern School" by Peter Davies:
"The Midday Studios were situated at 96, Mosley Street, opposite the Manchester City Art Gallery. The premises were to become an important focal point in the post-war Manchester art scene, housing a continuous series of local and national exhibitions."
